What is a standard?
A standard is an agreement relating to a product, service or process. Standards reflect good workmanship in many different fields including, therefore, the construction sector. A standard is not a law, it is applied voluntarily by all stakeholders: manufacturers, suppliers, customers, service providers, etc. Nevertheless, compliance with a standard can be obligatory. For instance, the government can refer to standards in laws and legislation and reference can also be made to the application of standards in contracts.
